Persistent Slabs
Avalanche problem

Persistent slabs

Persistent weak layers can produce avalanches for days, weeks or even months, making them especially dangerous and tricky. Manage the risk by making conservative terrain choices. Can be triggered by light loads and slabs often propagate in surprising and unpredictable ways.
Can avalanches be triggered? In how many places?

Although the avalanche problem might not obvious you could trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Heavier loads like groups of people, machines or cornice falls increase likelihood of triggering.

How large and destructive can avalanches become?

Avalanches can get large enough to severely injure, bury or even kill you (size 2).
